Welcome to Interpersonal!

Previously in the newsletter I posed the question, are you being controlled by someone in your life? You can read that post here. Now it’s y’all’s turn to look inward and see if you disrupt your own peace of mind by engaging in some controlling behaviors.

I invite you to ask yourself:

  • Do I have difficulty (or feel guilty when) saying "no” to someone, and usually just give in even if it’s something I really do not want to do?

  • Do I try to make sure everyone is happy or contented or fed or satisfied all the time, and take it personally if it seems like they’re not?

  • Do I “take care” of others when they could just as well take care of themselves?

  • Do I get frustrated when someone isn’t doing something that I believe would make their lives easier or better?

  • Do I utter the words, “You shouldn’t feel (sad/disappointed)!” or “Don’t feel (upset/angry)!”

Have you got some “yes” answers? I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news and some good news. Let’s start with the bad news, shall we? You, my friend, might just be a wee bit of a controlling person. (Cue tires screeching.)
